Our Story
Atlas, founded by Ian Butler, has been serving Whatcom County since 2018. Since its inception, he has guided Atlas as the primary general contractor, specializing in high-quality additions and renovations. Atlas has grown into a fine carpentry shop focused more on restoration work, custom millwork, and buildouts.
Ian's path to Atlas started years earlier, growing up working with his father. He slowly cultivated his own skills and expertise and started his own company. Looking to grow that experience further, Ian took on project management with a collective of carpenters in Santa Cruz, where the partners each owned a piece of the business rather than answering to a single owner. When Ian came home to the Pacific Northwest to build Atlas, he aimed to create a business that shared those values, a business owned collectively by the people doing the work.
Atlas’ collective of carpenters share a similar goal to create and restore homes and furnishings that can endure and grow with spaces. We hope you will choose to be a part of our story by allowing us to build or restore something that brings you joy. Something you can share for your lifetime and pass on to the ones you love.
